New for 2018 we will be offering a weekly Thursday evening paddle at Belle Isle Park to Sunset Point.
This 1.5 -2 hour weekly paddle will paddle from the kayak beach on Belle Isle to Sunset Point and back to the beach.
Enjoy panoramic views of the Detroit skyline, contrasted next to the nature of Belle Isle Park. While on the water experience the possible thrills of seeing gigantic Great Lake Freighters, among many other Detroit water crafts.
Route Classification: Beginner/Intermediate Paddle — Paddler should be comfortable in active water due to the potential paddling conditions, caused by wind and waves.
Requirements: We ask that all kayaks used on the Detroit River have double bulkheads or sit-on-tops. If you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Parking: We will be meeting at the parking lot just west of the the Detroit Yacht Club. The paddle leaves from the East end of the Belle Isle Beach, which is out side of the swimming zone. We are not meeting at the Beach House, please find directions to the parking lot just west oft he Detroit Yacht Club.
A State of Michigan Recreation Passport is required to enter Belle Isle.
$40 Per Person For Kayak Rental
All RKC kayaks for tours are single kayaks. During registration you will be asked for your height and weight so we may bring an appropriate kayak.
$20 Per Person with Own Kayak
On the Detroit River we require paddlers with their own kayaks to be double bulk-headed or sit-on-tops kayaks.
