TOP 5 FAQs
1. What languages are available?
That depends on the people who show up that night and the languages that they speak or want to practice. Spanish, French, German, English and ASL are almost always represented, but many of our exchangers speak or are learning other languages too. If you want to practice a specific language and you're unsure if it will be available, the best thing to do is post about it on the event page. We are happy to contact other people to form a language group if given a bit of notice!
2. How does it work?
When you come into Craft Heads, you will see some signs set up at the tables with different languages written on them. We always have someone there to greet you (usually Audra) and who will help answer any questions and get you situated with a conversation group.
3. I don't know any Spanish/French/Japanese — will I feel out of place?
Everyone is welcome to join the conversation groups. Keep in mind that this is an event primarily aimed at practicing speaking, so some prior knowledge of a language is helpful. However, everyone is very friendly here and willing to help you out. We provide some basic expressions sheets to help get you started. It is not uncommon for people to jump around from table to table to learn a little bit about a language that's new for them.
Keep in mind, if your native language is English, we usually have people at the event who want to practice theirs, so you can help out in that way. That's the true «exchange» spirit. :)
4. How late do people stay?
That's another «depends on the night»! Usually until 11pm but sometimes right until close.
5. How often do you do the exchanges?
Almost every Thursday at Craft Heads although once a month we hold a specially-themed cultural event (food, music, film...) — be sure to check the Events section on our Facebook page.
