Grant writing is more than just grants. To compete with other organizations for ever-tightening philanthropic dollars and give your organization a winning edge, you will need a sound and well developed fundraising program. If your organization is new to fundraising, or needs to strengthen its current program, then these workshops are for you.

This is a four part series on Grant Writing. You can choose to attend any sessions of your choosing or pre-purchase tickets for all four sessions at a $40 discount.

Grantwriting 101: Understanding the Basics. Monday, Sept. 11th, 6p-8p

In this high-level course, participants will:

Assess your organization's readiness for fundraising

Ascertain the relationship between branding and fundraising

Review the elements of effective fundraising and strategic plans

Explore various types of revenue streams

Understand the differences between corporate, foundation, and government grants

Grasp the Do's and Dont's of grantwriting

Gain expert knowledge on how funders select winning applications

Know what to do once you've been awarded or denied the grant

Become familiar with the Moves Management process

Learn effective digital, online, and social media fundraising strategies

Grantwriting 102: Writing Your Narrative. Monday, Sept. 18th. 6p-8p

In this workshop, participants will:

Prepare to write your grant application, from a holistic perspective

Practice writing narratives from real grant applications and receive feedback from the instructor

Assemble an application package to make the best impression the 1st time

Grantwriting 103: Developing Organization and Program Budgets. Monday, Sept. 25th 6p-8p

In this workshop, participants will:

Learn basic accounting principles and practices

Gauge the Do's and Dont's of nonprofit budgeting and financial reporting

Receive expert knowledge and advice from an experienced CPA on how to build your budgets and prepare your financial documents

Practice writing organization and program budgets

Grantwriting 104: Performance Measurement and Evaluation. Mon, Oct, 2nd, 6p-8p

In this workshop, participants will:

Learn how to determine where the needs and gaps exist within your target/client base

Know how to measure outcomes against goals and objectives and assess your findings

Determine your success metrics and indicators

Explore industry standard tools for accurate and reliable program measurement and evaluation

Know how to respond to funders if expressed outcomes are not met

Monique's Bio

Monique Phillips proudly serves as CEO of MP Consulting Group, a grants and professional writing company, where she provides independent advice and support in developing and/or executing strategic and operational plans for mid-large size nonprofit organizations to meet defined fundraising targets, objectives, and aspirations. She is responsible for identifying, researching, and writing corporate, foundation, and government grant proposals; managing the pre and post award grant administration process; educating clients on the Moves Management Process; and assisting organizations in structuring viable fundraising programs, amongst other duties.

Additionally, Monique serves as the Fund Development Officer for the City of Detroit, where she utilizes her skills, knowledge, and expertise to raise more than $2 million annually through corporate support that contributes to the city’s revitalization efforts and provide day to day support for the following groups: (1) Neighborhood, Community, and Economic Development; (2) Public Safety, Health, and Private Foundations; and (3) Transportation and Public Works and Government Operations.

Monique is currently in pursuit of her PhD in Political Science from Wayne State University, she holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Clark Atlanta University, and a B.A. in Journalism from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Additionally, she is in pursuit of a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certification, has received a Certificate in Advanced Nonprofit Fundraising from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits in 2014 and remains an active membership with the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
