Presentation of the Ed Anderson Advocate of the Year Award

Ed Anderson was a person in long-term recovery, a community activist, and recognized for his fierce advocacy on behalf of those with substance use disorders. Mr. Anderson served as a member of the Partnership for a Drug Free Detroit and in 2000 was appointed to The Detroit City Substance Abuse Task Force. He was employed for many years and an Outreach Services Coordinator and crisis case manager. He held certifications as a prevention consultant and addictions counselor in addition to being a state of Michigan Social Work Technician. He was a guiding force as an original member of REAL Michigan and REAL's board would like to honor a member of Michigan's Recovery Community in his memory.
Have someone who has contributed to the recovering community as an advocate? Here's how to nominate them for the first annual Ed Anderson Recovery Warrior Award. Criteria include:
Demonstrated success in addiction recovery advocacy at the state, local, or national level.
Has had a significant impact on the recovering community including efforts to erase the stigma of addiction and the discrimination it causes.
Is recognized as a role model for for those in the recovery advocacy movement and exemplifies compassion and leadership skill.
How to enter:
Complete the electronic form located at realmichigan.org providing full details of yourself and the entrant. We would like details of why you feel your nominee is eligible for the Recovery Warrior Award and specific examples of activities and how they have impacted the recovering community. This form will electronically capture information. You may also email [email protected]
for a print version of form.
The Judging Process:
All applications will be reviewed by REAL Board Members. Employees of REAL and board members are not eligible for nomination. The decision of the review committee will be final and those nominated announced prior to the award ceremony. Nominees will receive a complimentary ticket to the dinner and the winner announced at the event.
