Dental team members benefit from being updated on rules, regulations and guidelines that impact both the practice of dentistry and the business of dentistry. This course will review key information that will assist dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants to better understand their responsibilities as licensed professionals and oral health care providers. Topics that will be highlighted included: Administrative Rules of Dentistry for Michigan, (dental practice act), Michigan Medical Records Access Act and record keeping, reporting obligations including child and adult abuse and human trafficking, waste disposal, responsible opioid prescribing, responsible coding of procedures, billing oversight, human resources issues. Dental practice scenarios will be presented in an interactive session with audience participation.
At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
Provide an update of recent rules and regulations impacting the practice of dentistry in Michigan.
Highlight current guidelines for record keeping and legal and ethical guidelines for access to dental records
Highlight legal obligations related to reporting child and adult abuse.
Review recent legislation related to human trafficking
Update providers about current issues impacting practice
